Cleaning your home from floor to ceiling can be overwhelming, no matter the size of the job. There are lots of little tasks to tackle, but the end result can really improve your day-to-day life and state of mind.

To help you make the most out of any whole home clean, we spoke with Kacie Stephens from home cleaning company The Big Clean Co. She ran us through her tips for making cleaning more efficient and less stressful, as well as the tasks you might be neglecting.

Tell us about yourself and your home cleaning experience.

I'm Kacie, and my business is called The Big Clean Co. We professionally clean the homes of over 120 people every week.

What does a healthy home mean to you?

So much of our life is out of our control, but I truly believe the one thing we can control is the environment we live in. A healthy home is a calm, clutter-free space that we feel peaceful in. When we have that feeling in our home, we can carry it out with us into the world.

What are the most commonly neglected cleaning tasks in the home?

"Out of sight, out of mind" plays a big role in cleaning, and those are the places we often see falling behind. Things like the pantry shelves, the oven, behind the fridge or washing machine, and the dreaded linen cupboard, for sure!

How often should people be doing a whole home clean?

If you break tasks up throughout the week, you'll find you'll never get to the point where you need to do the whole home at once. I know for me, as a professional, I can go in and clean just about anybody's house in 3-4 hours. But with my own, it's too easy to get distracted and lose focus before the whole job is done. The floor is the only thing that needs to be done all at once. A whole home vacuum and mop has a huge impact on the appearance of a house.

Do you have any tips to make whole home cleans easier?

Break cleaning tasks up over the week. I like to focus on individual areas of the house for a few hours at time. Most importantly, keep at least one day free where all you need to do is tidy up after yourself. Then you can enjoy some downtime.

It also helps to write a plan and keep it in a visible place while you’re cleaning. Share the work with other members of the household if you can.

What do you think the most useful cleaning tool for anyone to own is?

I can't live without my vacuum and all its attachments. We use the Pullman 10L Commercial Vacuum and the Numatic Henry Vacuum along with all their brush attachments for things like skirting boards, window tracks and car interiors.

What is the biggest benefit of hiring a professional cleaner?

More of the most valuable commodity of all: time!
